Do you ever feel like you do not have the motivation to tackle your studies until you only have a little time left? We already know that cramming is a terrible idea and won’t result in any kind of success. Finding yourself in this predicament can be frustrating and stressful. If you had better study tactics, you could still retain a lot of information without the dreaded cramming session the night before an exam.

Read aloud

Don’t be afraid of looking like a crazy person walking around your room reading information out loudly. This actually helps you absorb the information faster. Pretend as if you have someone in the room with you and you are reading the information for them.

Time of day

Are you a morning person or a night owl? Know when the best time is for you to study more effectively. Some people cannot study early morning because they take a long time to function properly. It might then be better for them to start the process after a cup of coffee. It is important not to sacrifice any sleep in the process. If it means you sleeping in a little later to tackle evening studies, then that is what you do.

Have some fun

Sing a song about your information or create fun infographics if you can. Making your study process fun helps to destress from the process. Do not take studying too seriously, because at the end of the day it is all about understanding and retaining the information. How you managed to do that is not a matter of concern.

Before you tackle your studies, make sure you have a study area. When you get there, your brain will recognise that it is time to get down to business. Do not study in an area where you usually will be relaxing. It is going to take you much longer to focus and study. Make sure that this space is organised at all times and have minimal distractions. Studying in front of the tv would be a terrible idea and you might find yourself half way through your studies be tempted to turn that sucker on.


As counterproductive as it may seem, if you want to retain as much information as possible, you need to take breaks. This does not mean that you should study less than your break time. Study for 55 minutes for example and take a 15 minute break. After that break, get right back to what you need to learn. Your brain needs time to work through the information you just fed it and store it to be recalled later. No one enjoys a personal statement editing process, but if you break it up into sessions, it becomes a much easier process.


You can find effective study methods to help you retain information in a short amount of time. All you have to do is find what works for you. Once you find that perfect combination, stick with it throughout your study and work life.
